As you advance through the recruitment process, you will be required to undertake a number of Online Suitability Assessments. These assessments involve cognitive, behavioural competency and psychological testing.
The tests are administered by Tasmania Police using third party providers. It is imperative that you monitor your email constantly, as depending on your email security and spam settings, the email invitations to complete testing may get redirected to your junk/spam folders. It is your responsibility to monitor your email.
Talogy Cognitive and Behavioural Competency Assessments
Cognitive and Behavioural Assessments is an important part of the recruitment and selection process for front-line positions with Tasmania Police. The testing provides an objective and standardised approach to assessing and comparing applicants’ abilities, strengths, and preferred working styles. These assessments are completed online, and you will need a computer/laptop with a working webcam to complete.
What does this assessment involve?
The Tasmania Police Cognitive and Behavioural Competency assessment includes:
- Cognitive reasoning testing

- These tests measures how quickly somebody can learn, how readily they can adapt, how easily they can understand, and how adeptly they can solve novel problems.
- A reading comprehension assessment

- You will be asked to read passages and answer questions that require applying understanding of what you have read.
- Personality questionnaires

- These assessments look at your interests, preferences, and feelings about a range of things. The personality questionnaires are not a test; there are no right or wrong answers. Questions are aimed at discovering your interests, preferences, and feelings.

PAR Inc – Personality Assessment Inventory (Psychological Assessment)
Policing is mentally demanding profession. Some psychological traits or tendencies may make you more susceptible to mental injury, or may mean you are not suited to the role of a Police Officer.
The PAI assesses psychopathological syndromes and provides information relevant for clinical diagnosis, treatment planning, and screening for psychopathology.
You cannot pass or fail this assessment. The results are reviewed by DPFEM Psychologists and in conjunction with the results and observations of all other testing to date, a determination is made as to whether or not you advance further throughout the recruitment process.
What does this assessment involve?
The Tasmania Police Personality Assessment Inventory involves evaluating a number of statements such as;
“I think people enjoy going to the dentist” You will then provide a response on the scale provided such as “Slightly True”
Important Information in relation to the Assessments
Email invitations are sent from Third Party Providers. Be on the lookout from emails Talogy or Podium and PARInc or PARiConnect.
You generally only have seven days to complete the testing before the links expire. Failure to complete the assessments will result in your application being withdrawn.
Monitor and check your email junk and spam folders in case the emails get misdirected depending on your security settings. Your email = your responsibility.
Assistance is not permitted during the testing. Photographs are taken at random times throughout the testing to validation and audit purposes to ensure the integrity of the testing.
Wear appropriate clothing as you will be photographed and be mindful of your surroundings whilst completing the testing. Chose a quiet area, where you will not be disturbed.
